Fortunately there are no volcanoes in Sri Lanka. This is just the sun setting over the hills of Ginigathhena, as seen from Great Western. The name Ginigathena is perhaps appropriate, Ginigath means burnt. Hena is a Slash-and-burn agricultural field. Combined word Ginigathena (sometimes written as Ginigathhena) means such a field that caught fire again after planting but before the crop could be gathered.

Houses by the lake? not exactly, houses by the marsh would be correct. If you look towards the right edge of the photo, you will see power lines and a lamp post. The road running through the marsh has been submerged and the marsh has become a temporary lake thanks to last week’s downpour.

Seen at a wedding in Kandy. I wasn’t the photographer - just another guest.
